Nurseries Visit in the USVI/PR

Written by: Damari Acosta

The journey thus far with the IITF-SPT-UCF and Forest Stewardship Team has been such a great learning experience.

I was on the field for two weeks between the USVI and PR visiting and learning about private and commercial nurseries located in these beautiful islands. It was truly an adventure. The new Tropical Nursey Specialist that covers the USVI, Puerto Rico and Pacific Islands, Emily Senegal, was with us along the way. Emily was so knowledgeable about the different species we encounter and had some very insightful information about different nursery practices. We had some very insightful and great discussions with her, and we are hoping to work together on some amazing projects for the USVI, PR, and Hawaii Islands. In addition to this trip, I continued to provide support for our local partners in the USVI. Working with our partners, I found that the support our team provides is very much needed and appreciated in every way.

With every month that goes by, I find myself learning more, and being inspired more by the team I am a part of and the local partners I work with on a daily basis. This experience has been a truly fulfilling work experience. It's not everyday you find a work environment where you are happy to be a part of but I found that with this position. I hope everyone journey is going great and I hope you all are achieving excellent things within your role.

Until next post. Hasta Luego!
